Amman, Jordan's capital, was once known as Philadelphia - one of the Decapolis, which was a confederation of ten Roman cities in the Middle East during the first century b.C. The Citadel is the main archaeological site. These columns belonged to the Temple of Hercules.
From the Citadel we overlook the downtown market area and the Roman Theater, seating 5000 people, which is still used nowadays.
Amman is known as the white city, due to the white stones commonly used in constructions.
With a population of over one million people, the city is spread out and with many modern buldings, like King Abdullah Mosque.
