San Gimignano

bar

San Gimignano is a lovely gem near Siena, in Tuscany. Towers are seen everywhere in this medieval town, where wealthy families disputed their power by erecting taller towers. Of the 72 towers that once existed, only 14 remain.
San Gimignano's historic center was declared World Heritage site by UNESCO in 1990. The well preserved buildings take us back to the Middle Ages.

Every narrow road displays some interesting architectural detail. On the far right, you can see the Piazza della Cisterna. The cathedral has frescoes about the life of Santa Fina, by Domenico Ghirlandaio.
