Deserto boliviano · Bolivian desert

Salar de Uyuni, with a surface area of 12,000 km², is the world’s largest salt flat. It is located in southwestern Bolivia, at an altitude of about 12,000ft, and is one of the major tourist attractions in the country for its unusual landscape. From the vast white plain emerge some “islands” of volcanic rock, the most visited being Incahuasi Island, covered with giant cacti.
The extraction of salt and borax is important for the region’s economy. The salar has also the world’s largest lithium reserves, but it remains still little exploited. The main city next to the salar is also called Uyuni and was founded as an intersection of the railroad linking the mines of Bolivia with the port of Antofagasta, Chile.

The Salt and the Earth

Photos I took in Plitvice Lakes National Park, Croatia.
Plitvice Lakes National Park was founded in 1949 and is the oldest and largest in Croatia. Trails follow a sequence of 16 green lakes separated by natural dams of travertine and linked by waterfalls. Part of the park was closed for road conservation, but what I saw was absolutely breathtaking.
Galovački buk (Galovac Waterfall) is the highest at the Upper Lakes, with a 25m fall.
After a navigation on Kozjak Lake – the largest in the park, with an area of 82ha – we arrive at the Lower Lakes, a sequence of very blue lakes and gentle cascades. A feast for any photography lover.
With a 78m drop, Veliki slap (Big Waterfall) is the tallest waterfall in Croatia.
