O Mar de Aral é um lago de água salgada na Ásia Central, na fronteira entre o Cazaquistão e o Uzbequistão. Ao longo dos anos ele vem perdendo volume sensivelmente por excesso de uso dos rios afluentes em irrigação, A foto abaixo, da NASA, mostra uma imagem de satélite no mês passado e a margem do lago em 1960, quando ainda era o 4° maior lago do mundo. O Mar de Aral, que já teve uma forte indústria pesqueira, hoje tem uma salinidade tão alta que dizimou a maior parte da fauna e flora, além de impactar as atividades humanas - uma prova do estrago que somos capazes de fazer na natureza e em nossas próprias vidas. The Aral Sea is a salt lake in Central Asia, between Kazahstan and Uzbekistan. Along the years, it has been severely losing volume due to the excess use of its affluents in irrigation. The photo below, by NASA, shows a satellite image taken last month and the line indicates the shoreline in 1960, when it was still the world's 4th largest lake. The Aral Sea, which once hosted a strong fishing industry, has today such a high salinity that exterminated most of the fauna and flora, besides impacting human activities - a proof of the damage we are able to cause in nature and in our own lives.
